An Old Stick In The Mud...

I can't think of many things more surprising, totally random, or funnier than these words coming out of her mouth tonight before bed.  After Jackson went down for the night, the three of us were hanging out with Riley trying on literally every piece of jewelry her Mommy owns.  Considering it was already well past her usual bedtime, Melissa told her that she could play for "two more minutes", and then it was time for bed.

With perfect timing and delivery, Riley called her an "old stick in the mud", which of course caused us both to laugh...and laugh...and laugh.  From a 2 year old!?

Now as a point of reference, we have watched the Olivia the Pig "Beach" epsisode no fewer than a dozen times in the week since we have been home from the beach.  In that episode, Olivia's Grandmother calls her old friend a "stick in the mud" for no longer being fun like she was when they were younger.  So, naturally, Riley picks that up and not only uses it later, but delivers it perfectly and within the proper context.

Too. Funny.

Riley has also taken an interest in taking her own pictures this week.   There have been lots of pictures of the carpet, but there have also been some pretty darn good ones considering size of the camera for those little hands.  Here is one she took of Jackson tonight.

We also began the transition from crib to "big girl bed" this week.  So far it has gone off very smoothly without even the slightest problem.  Of course with the large railing on the side, it's not too different from the crib, but it's still a change, and the fact that she has handled it well is fantastic.

As for Jackson, he is now holding a sippy-cup and drinking from the straw. So it seems like with each passing day he figures out just a little bit more. He is also getting a bit quicker with the wheels as he moves from point A to point B just a bit better every day.

And finally, can this summer please just end?  Will we ever see below 100 degrees again?  At this point I am starting to think we won't.  As if it hasn't been hot as hades already, we now have 107 to look forward to next week.  And that's without the heat index.  Just lovely.

Oh, Jackson would also like to thank the NFL owners and players for ending the lockout.  Not long now!  :)

Well we have to say Riley is one of the smartest 2 1/2 year olds we have ever seen!To remember what she said to Melissa and to use it because she had to stop playing with the jewelery is something. She is too, too funny.
Jackson looks so cute in that baseball cap! He is growing so fast. He is going to be as handsome as Riley is pretty! ;o)
I see he can now get into Riley's toy box. Look out Riley, here comes Jackson.
Love to all
